Celebrating Cultures & Communities
At Multicultural Student Affairs (MSA), we welcome all students, celebrating every background, culture, and identity. Our mission is to foster belonging and increase student success through culturally relevant activities that affirm the various identities and experiences shaping the NC State community.
MSA is an empowering space where students can explore their own identities, connect with others, and thrive through leadership development, academic enrichment, mentorship, and support.
Rooted in our core values—empowerment, community, cultural affirmation, and holistic student success—we provide students the tools and resources to grow personally, academically, and professionally.
We invite all students to engage with MSA, deepen their self-understanding, and connect with the vibrant communities that make NC State a place of belonging for all.
At MSA, we recognize the importance of honoring all communities’ various histories, traditions, and contributions. We observe various cultural and heritage months throughout the year, creating space to uplift different voices and celebrate the rich backgrounds that shape our campus. These moments offer opportunities for students to engage, learn, and reflect on the experiences and legacies of others. Students can build meaningful connections, expand their perspectives, and contribute to a campus environment where every story is valued by participating in these celebrations.
In efforts to continue celebrating the many cultural communities that exist, we intend on doing the following:
- Highlighting Research – This includes creating reading lists of various texts from the cultural community being celebrated, highlighting impactful research, and curating a display case with cultural hearth.
- Expanding Our Chat & Chew Dialogue Series – We hope to continue growing these student-led conversations that focuses on culture, identity, and belonging.
- Digital & Visual Expansion – Through collaboration with various campus partners such as the student center, libraries, or residence halls, we hope to feature literature and historical facts in these spaces. Additionally, highlighting relevant cultural traditions or student reflections on digital screens and social media.
- Large Scale Collaborative Programming – Utilizing film screenings followed by facilitated discussions, educational workshops on cultural history. Additionally, we will also have student social media takeovers to emphasize their voices and stories, and showcasing student and community art in a visual display.
