Dr. Jameco McKenzie is an accomplished Caribbean higher education leader and scholar-practitioner whose work centers on student success, belonging, and student development. He serves as Director of Multicultural Student Affairs at NC State University, where he guides initiatives that strengthen retention, graduation, and leadership development across the student population. His professional background spans nearly a decade of experience in student affairs with emphasis on co-curricular learning, instructional practice, and program design.
His teaching portfolio includes courses in College Student Development & Peer Counseling, Leadership, and Cultural Awareness. He has also guest-lectured, presented at national conferences, and served as a panelist in graduate-level seminars focused on student development, high-impact practices, and higher education curricula. In addition to his administrative responsibilities, he is an affiliate faculty member at the rank of adjunct assistant professor in the College of Education at NC State.
Dr. McKenzie has earned recognition for his contributions to student support and organizational leadership, including a college-level Award of Excellence and division-level Pride of the WolfPack commendations for exemplifying University Values in his leadership of Multicultural Student Affairs.
His academic preparation includes a doctorate in Organizational Leadership, a Master of Education in Higher Education Student Affairs, a bachelor’s degree in Mass Communications, and graduate certificates in Counselor Education and Anti-Racism in Urban Education. His research explores the relationship between belonging and educational practice within cultural centers.
Dr. McKenzie also contributes to institutional governance and statewide engagement. He serves as the Chair of the NC State Staff Senate, representing more than 7,200 staff members at the university. He additionally serves as parliamentarian in the UNC System Staff Assembly, supporting the seventeen-institution system through guidance on procedural practice and system-level collaboration.
He brings a combination of strategic leadership, a commitment to mentoring, student success, and a long-standing dedication to strengthening educational environments.
